Anthony Intiso, grange master for the combined Greenhorn Grange and People for the USA (PFUSA), is the keynotespeaker.
“As a reminder of the original Boston Tea Party, where our forefathers protested taxes without due representation, citizens all across the nation are joining together for tax day tea parties on tax day, April 15,” a press release from localorganizers stated. “Yreka will also be part of this nationwide movement. The tea parties are a non-partisan gatheringto boost citizen morale and to show the elected officials that the
‘silent majority’ will no longer be silent.”
Attendees are asked to bring a tea bag.
The white tags on the bags will be collected and mailed to the White House.
“The more tags the White House receives, the more the government will have to take notice that we are tired of theextreme spending and continually raised taxes,” the release stated. “If you don’t bring a tea bag, there will be bags avail-able.
“The tea parties are not political party-bashing,” the release continued. “They are to raise citizen morale, give taxpayingcitizens an opportunity to be heard and make the government aware that the people will be heard. Members of anypolitical party are invited to attend.”
Organizers encourage attendees to bring non-partisan, socially acceptable signs, as they expect local news media andregional television stations to cover the event.
